Video guide

Watch the collection video

The video helps you visualize the gestures. The written guide below remains the reference for the full protocol.

! Read before watching: the video does not mention it, but you must let each strip air-dry for about 30 minutes before placing it in its plastic bag.

Guidelines

You have received five samples. A minimum of three samples is required to build a reliable baseline profile. By returning all five samples, you increase the value of your profile: we can better observe the variations of your biology, improve the stability of the analysis, and produce more accurate and representative scores.

  • Collect your samples over a period of 2 to 5 days.
  • A minimum of one hour is required between each collection.
  • A change in your metabolism is required between each sample, for example after a meal, after physical activity, or at a different moment in your day.
  • The more your samples are taken in different contexts, the more your results can cover a broad and useful variation of your biology.

Tips

  • If you have trouble getting enough blood, take your sample after physical activity, a warm bath, or a warm shower to stimulate blood flow.
  • Firmly massage your finger from top to bottom, as needed, to form a large drop of blood.
  • Always check that the blood goes through the paper.
  • Let the strip air-dry for about 30 minutes before placing it in the bag.
  • Prioritize one spot of at least 6 mm soaked through on both sides rather than four small ones: a single large, well-soaked spot is far more useful than several thin ones.
  • Press the lancet firmly against your finger before triggering it: firm contact gives a cleaner prick and a better blood flow.

Before the collection

1 Writing your BTID, the date and the time on a collection strip

Label each strip

Write your BTID, the date and the time on each new strip.

Your BTID is your four-digit number. You can find it in the top-right corner of your TwinMe portal once logged in.
Do this before washing your hands.
2 Unscrewing the green tip of the lancet

Remove the green cap

The lancet is sealed by a small green cap. Twist it (about two full turns, 720 degrees) until it detaches, then pull it off.

No need to worry: the needle stays tucked inside the lancet. Once the cap is off, you can place the lancet directly against your finger.
Important: do not press the green button at this step.
3 Washing hands with warm water

Wash your hands

Wash your hands with warm water and dry them well.

Warm, dry hands make the collection easier and reduce the risk of contamination.

4 Pressing the lancet against the side of the finger

Prick your finger

Press the lancet firmly against the side of your finger, then press the green button to trigger the lancet.

The lancet is single-use and can be discarded in a regular trash bin after use.
5 Massaging the finger firmly to form a drop of blood

Form a drop

Firmly massage your finger from top to bottom, as needed, to form a large drop of blood.

6 Letting the blood drop be absorbed by the strip via capillarity

Deposit the drop

Bring your finger close to the strip without touching the paper. Let the drop settle on its own and be absorbed by capillary action.

You do not have to fill the whole circle, contrary to what the image shows. What matters is that the blood goes through the paper to the back.
You can deposit more than one drop. A minimum diameter of 6 mm is required. Start with the first circle before moving to the second and, if possible, use all four circles.
!

Important

The blood must go through the paper.

Check the back of the strip: each spot must measure at least 6 mm, on the front as well as the back. If needed, add an extra drop.

You do not have to fill the whole circle, even though the image below shows full circles. What really matters is that the blood drop goes through the paper.

The blood must go all the way through the paper.

C

After the collection

7 Letting the strip dry completely

Let it dry

Let the strip air-dry for about 30 minutes before putting it in the bag.

The colour of the blood will turn from bright red to dark red, indicating the sample is dry.
8 Placing one dried strip into a plastic specimen bag

Bag the strip

Once dry, place 1 strip per plastic bag.

10 Placing the bags into the prepaid return envelope

Mail it back

Place the bags in the prepaid return envelope and mail it within a maximum of 5 days.
